According to this Houston Chronicle report, Texas officials are feeling slighted in the wake of the U.S. government’s recent announcement of $15 million in federal aid for Florida workers dislocated by changes in NASA’s human spaceflight program and believe the Obama administration’s motives are political. Houston, which hosts NASA’s Johnson Space Center, has received no such promises despite the fact that it too, will be affected by the space shuttle’s impending retirement.

The following quote, attributed to Bob Mitchell, head of the Bay Area Economic Partnership in Houston, says it all: “This is a political statement by the White House and an attempt by this administration to divide the states.”
