Turkey has chosen Japan’s Mitsubishi Electric Corp. to procure and launch its next two Turksat communications satellites, the Xinhua news agency reported March 7. Turkey aims to launch Turksat 4A in late 2013 followed by Turksat 4B in 2014, according to Turkey’s semi-official Anatolia news agency.

Turkish Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim was quoted as saying the $571 million deal with Mitsubishi will lay the groundwork for cooperation between the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and the planned Turkish Space Agency, which is expected to be established next year.
