The Israeli Defense Ministry intends to eliminate gaps in satellite reconnaissance and surveillance data by investing millions in an upgrade to provide the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) with real-time intelligence, The Jerusalem Post reports.
“We are looking into ways to be able to download material from satellites even when they are not over Israel and in sight of the ground stations,” an IDF officer said. “This will give us the ability to receive live footage from an area of interest.”
To improve the transfer of data, the Defense Ministry is considering launching a communications satellite that would be used solely for military purposes.
