China launched a Yaogan 14 remote sensing satellite May 10 aboard a Long March 4B rocket, China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.
Liftoff from the Taiyuan Satellite Center in Shanxi province in northern China occurred at 3:06 p.m. Beijing time. Also onboard was a 9-kilogram satellite dubbed Tiantuo 1 that Xinhua said will “mainly be used for data reception for the satellitebased vessel Automatic Identification System, optical imaging and various space exploration experiments in orbit.”
The launch was China’s seventh of 2012.
