Lockheed Martin Space Systems recently completed acoustic testing of the second Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) geosynchronous spacecraft the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company is building for the U.S. Air Force.
The missile warning satellite known as SBIRS GEO-2 is on track to be delivered and available for launch in spring 2012, Lockheed Martin said in an Aug. 16 press release. The first geosynchronous SBIRS satellite, GEO-1, which was launched May 7, has reached orbit, deployed its instruments and activated infrared sensors, Lockheed Martin said.
