Saint-Hubert, Quebec, March 15, 2002 – Marc Garneau, President of the
Canadian Space Agency (CSA), and Thérèse David, Communications
Vice-President of TQS, a Quebec-based television network, signed an
agreement today authorising TQS to use the mosaic of Canada in its weather
report. This mosaic has been generated by Canada’s Earth Observation
satellite, RADARSAT-1.

“The Canadian Space Agency is dedicated to fostering partnerships between
the private and public sectors, and to positioning Canada in the
knowledge-based economy through the development of space knowledge and
innovation,” said Marc Garneau. “The mosaic of Canada, the first ever
produced by the CSA in collaboration with RADARSAT International and the
Canadian Centre for Remote Sensing, demonstrates the capability of
RADARSAT-1 to take detailed observation of any location on the planet.”

“The license to use this map of Canada awarded by the CSA will allow TQS and
its affiliates to provide the highest quality weather bulletins to its
viewers, ” contended Thérèse David. Weather bulletins airing during Le Grand
Journal, the TQS evening newscast, have shown the latest satellite view of
the province of Quebec taken by RADARSAT-1 with colour enhancements by TQS
graphic designers. TQS is proud to be the first Canadian television station
to use satellite radar imagery of Quebec.

This mosaic of Canada is the first of a series of four, including mosaics of
the United States, Antarctica and Australia. A detailed map of Africa is
scheduled to be completed later this year.
