The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) earned just over 1 billion rupees ($21.5 million) since 2007 through commercial launches of foreign satellites, science minister PrithvirajChavan told the Indian Parliament Dec. 2. The bulk of the revenue came from Israel and Italy.
Chavan said that a total of 12 satellites — including six nanosatellites — belonging to seven countries were launched by ISRO during the three-year period on five medium-lift rockets. In a written statement, he said ISRO earned 548 million rupees from Israel, 407 million rupees from Italy, 20 million rupees from Canada, 14 million rupees from the Netherlands, 13 million rupees from Indonesia, 9 million rupees from Argentina and 5 million rupees from Germany.
