A Soyuz 2.1b rocket on June 25 successfully launched the Russian government’s Resurs-P civilian remote sensing satellite to an elliptical orbit from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, the Russian Federal Space Agency, Roscosmos, said in a press release.
Resurs-P separated from the rocket’s third stage and headed for its intended orbit at about 1:38 p.m. Eastern time, Roscosmos said. The satellite will support Russia’s Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Emergency Situations, Ministry of Agriculture, Fishery Agency, and the Federal Service for State Registration, Cadastre and Cartography of Russia, according to the press release.
Resurs-P, manufactured by TsSKB Progress, is now in a near-polar orbit, inclined at 97.28 degrees, with an apogee of 451 kilometers and a perigee of 250 kilometers, according to data published by the U.S. Defense Department.
