Jacobs Engineering Group of Pasadena, Calif., bested Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies (SGT) Inc., Honeywell and Lockheed Martin to hold onto a NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) support contract worth up to $1.93 billion over nine years.
NASA announced Jan. 19 that it had awarded the JSC Engineering, Technology and Science (JETS) contract to Jacobs Engineering, the incumbent on the predecessor contract.
The cost-plus-award-fee services contract calls for the company to support JSC’s Engineering Directorate and Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science Directorate by providing engineering design and development, sustaining engineering, engineering analysis and assessment, technology development, test services, laboratory and facility operation and maintenance, planetary mission research, physical science research and astromaterial curation.
The contract begins May 1 with a five-year base period. A pair of two-year options could keep Jacobs under contract through 2020.
Jacobs, NASA’s largest engineering services contractor, was one of four companies to bid for the JETS contract. NASA down-selected to Jacobs and SGT before deciding Feb. 8 to award the contract to Jacobs.
“Jacobs is delighted to continue our support of JSC as NASA implements new approaches and programs for space exploration, technology development and scientific research,” Jacobs Group Vice President Terry Hagen said in a statement. “We look forward to delivering value, innovation and technical excellence to JSC.”
Jacobs’ JETS team includes Aerodyne Industries, Barrios Technology, ERC Inc., HX5, Hamilton Sundstrand, GeoControl Systems Inc., Oceaneering Space Systems and MRI Technologies.
