A Chinese Long March 2D rocket on Sept. 29 launched the Venezuelan Remote Sensing Satellite, dubbed VRSS 1, into a 650-kilometer orbit, according to China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency.
The successful liftoff from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China marked China’s first in-orbit delivery of a remote sensing satellite to an international customer and the second time that China has launched a satellite for Venezuela. In 2008, China launched Venezuela’s Venesat-1 telecommunications satellite.
