Satellite messaging services provider Orbcomm of Fort Lee, New Jersey, said Oct. 28 that it will supply 16,000 tracking and monitoring devices to a U.S. retailer with a large fleet of dry and refrigerated transportation assets. Orbcomm did not identify the customer by name, but said it is “one of the nation’s largest companies.”

The order calls for a mix of dual-mode GT 1100 devices for the customer’s dry trailers and dual-mode RT 6000+ devices for refrigerated transportation assets.

Orbcomm expects to ship the majority of the order in the fourth quarter of this year, according to a press release.

“Signing one of the nation’s largest companies as a customer validates our ability to build and deliver high-performance [machine-to-machine] solutions that help our customers optimize their assets, drive down maintenance costs and increase their return on investment,” Orbcomm Chief Executive Marc Eisenberg said. “This opportunity marks our largest GT 1100 order to date and sets the stage for future growth in the transportation & distribution industry.”
