Saint-Hubert (Quebec), October 12, 2001 – Representatives of the media are
invited to attend a presentation by Canadian Space Agency President W. M.
(Mac) Evans and Executive Vice President Marc Garneau on Monday October 15
to participants of the Technology in Government Conference in Ottawa.

The presentation will include a dynamic “Canada in Space” video with a
special message to participants by Canadian Space Agency Astronaut Chris
Hadfield from Moscow. Mr. Evans will expand on Canada’s leading role in
space and in particular on those achievements which are helping support the
Government’s initiatives delivering quality programs and services through
space-based technologies such as RADARSAT-1 and satellite communications to
Canadians living in communities throughout the nation.

Dr. Garneau will then offer his personal viewpoints tracing Canada’s
involvement and contribution to the construction of the world’s largest
engineering project, the International Space Station. Dr. Garneau will also
highlight the key role played by the Canadian Space Agency in the training
and certification of astronauts and cosmonauts on the operation of Canada’s
newest icon of space technology, Canadarm2.

Following a question and answer session for conference participants, Mac
Evans and Marc Garneau will be available to representatives of the media for
interviews.
