Former NASA Administrator Mike Griffin and a handful of other space notables endorsed Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in an open letter just before the Jan. 31 Florida primary, Florida Today reports.
A “failure of leadership” under U.S. President Barack Obama “has thrust the space program into disarray and triggered a dangerous erosion of our technical workforce and capabilities,” according to the letter, signed by Griffin, Apollo 17 Moon walker Gene Cernan, space shuttle commander Bob Crippen and five others.
As president, Romney would ensure “America will once again lead the world in space,” they write.
