Iran aims to send a so-called bio-capsule carrying a living creature into space in the next two years, according to the Islamic Republic’s official Fars news agency.

The Oct. 6 story quotes the head of Iran’s Aerospace Center, MohsenBahrami, saying that project studies already have begun.

Iran also plans to launch a third Kavoshgar research rocket into space by the end of March 2010. The first such rocket, based on the Shahab-3 missile, launched in February 2008. A second Kavoshgar research flight, involving a two-stage solid-fuel rocket, was launched in December 2008.
