The Raytheon Advanced Weather Interactive Procession System (AWIPS) team in mid-June completed an expansion of the U.S. National Weather Service’s Satellite Broadcast Network (SBN)/NOAA Port feed, tripling its bandwidth, the Waltham, Mass.-based company said in a June 28 press release.

Raytheon said the SBN expansion is critical to the performance of AWIPS, which gives forecasters access to data and imagery from an array of weather sensors and satellites through interactive workstations. AWIPS supports more than 130 weather forecast offices and river forecast centers across the United States.
