NASA picked Terrence Wilcutt to be its next chief of safety and mission assurance.

Wilcutt, a former astronaut and Marine colonel, will be responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of safety and mission assurance policies and procedures for all NASA programs, the agency said in an Aug. 16 press release.

Wilcutt was most recently director of safety and mission assurance at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. He succeeds Bryan O’Connor, who is retiring effective Aug. 31, NASA said.
