What: NASA Administrator Charles Bolden will tour a facility at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., where engineers are developing and testing the Space Launch System’s guidance, navigation and control software and avionics hardware. This integrated Hardware-in-the-Loop lab, using digital computer models and prototype software/hardware, demonstrates real-time flight control of the launch vehicle during ascent.
Members of the Huntsville-area news media are invited to cover events and participate in the tour.
The Marshall Center is leading design and development of the Space Launch System on behalf of the agency. The new heavy-lift launch vehicle will expand human presence beyond low-Earth orbit and enable new missions of exploration across the solar system. Its first full-scale test flight is set for 2017.

When: Friday, Nov. 18 2:30 p.m. CST (A 1:30 p.m. arrival time at Redstone Arsenal’s Gate 9 for badging is recommended to ensure adequate security processing time.)

Media attending the tour must report to the Redstone Arsenal Joint Visitor Control Center at Gate 9, Interstate 565 interchange at Rideout Road/Research Park Boulevard. Vehicles are subject to a security search at the gate. News media will need two photo identifications, vehicle registration and proof of car insurance. Visitor parking is available in front of Building 4205 on the west side.
