NOTE: Boeing Space Exploration will hold a media/briefing luncheon 12-1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3 at 100 Boeing Way in Titusville, Florida to disscus the company’s role in supporting this month’s launch of Space Shuttle Endeavour to the International Space Station (ISS). More than 740 either Boeing-built and/or -designed flight hardware components will be delivered Aug. 7 on the STS-118 Space Shuttle Endeavour and ISS Flight Assembly 13.A1 mission. A dial-in number for the luncheon will be provided to media that cannot attend the briefing in person. Reservations are required, and requests for the dial-in number must be received by no later than 8 p.m. (EST) Thursday, Aug. 2.
The Boeing-engineered Station-Shuttle Power Transfer System (SSPTS) will be utilized for the first time during the August mission and will allow extended on-orbit shuttle stays and time for more scientific experiments. The Boeing-built ISS Starboard 5 truss element will permit one quarter of the orbitng outpost’s power to be realized. More than194 improvements have been made to Space Shuttle Endeavour, and Boeing provided design upgrade support to a number of the improvements.
As the lead technical systems integrator, Boeing is intimately involved in all aspects of the ISS’s technical and operational support, and as United Space Alliance’s major subcontractor for the space shuttle, Boeing has helped to keep the shuttle in top performance. Boeing Space Exploration is headquartered in Houston, Texas, near the NASA Johnson Space Center and has operations at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.
