MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today that it will provide advanced technology solutions for on-going operations of the International Space Station (ISS). These solutions will continue MDA’s role in providing essential solutions for the on-going utilization of the ISS.

Two major components supplied by MDA, an enhanced platform for Dextre and a critical component for the ISS communication system are scheduled for launch tomorrow, on May 14, 2010.

Under a NASA contract, MDA developed an enhanced platform to provide Dextre, the highly-dexterous two-armed manipulator, with additional flexibility and versatility to perform maintenance tasks on the ISS.

A core component of the ISS communication system for critical video, and data delivery links between the ISS and Earth is also onboard. The spare unit was upgraded by MDA under contract to The Boeing Company.

‘For more than a decade we have successfully demonstrated advanced technology solutions for servicing in space,’ said Steve Oldham, a vice president responsible for this business in MDA. ‘While we look forward to on-going support of the ISS through 2020 and possibly longer, this unparalleled expertise uniquely positions MDA for future unmanned missions and exploration initiatives.’ Images may be downloaded from: http://www.mdacorporation.com/corporate/news/gallery/nasa_20100513_01.cfm NASA Mission videos: http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/videogallery/index.html?media_id=13463757
