Richmond, B.C. – MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today that its U.S. operation received a US$4 million contract to provide Lockheed Martin with an advanced technology solution for the Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) instrument that will fly on the GOES-R Series satellites which provides environmental data to the U.S. MDA will deliver the advanced technology solutions in 2011 through to 2012.
The GLM will be used to monitor lightning on a global scale and the data collected will help protect communities by providing an earlier warning time to prepare for severe weather, as well as providing a better understanding of the earth’s climate system.
