The National Space Awareness Workshop 2008 organized by the Canadian Alumni of the International Space University (CAISU) will be held at McGill University
(Leacock Building) on Sunday November 23rd, 2008. This year, this event is organized jointly with the Canadian Space Summit, which will be held at McGill from Friday Nov. 21st to Sunday Nov. 23rd, 2008.
The National Space Awareness Workshop is a biannual event which aims at promoting space awareness among students, young professionals and the community in general by having the participants working on topics in a space-related theme, through a very dynamic and interdisciplinary setting. This year’s theme is “Canadians in Space“.
During the workshop, the participants will have the opportunity to propose their own vision of the Canadian Astronaut Program. During the morning sessions, they will receive lectures by worldwide experts, researchers, and professors in the space industry. Then, during the afternoon, they will form breakout working groups to address the conference theme. After the workshop, results from the breakout groups will be collated into a final report and distributed to interested parties, Canadian universities, Canadian space
companies and stakeholders of the Canadian space industry.
This year’s confirmed speakers are:
- Mr. Viqar Abbasi, Technical Manager – Training Systems, Canadian Space Agency
- Dr. M. Lucy Stojak, President, Consultants M.L. Stojak Inc.
- Mr. Yves Sévigny, Coordinator, Cosmodome’s Space Science Centre
- Mr. Matthew Bamsey, PhD Candidate, University of Guelph
- Dr. Robert D. Richards, Director of Space Technology, Optech Incorporated of Canada / Co-Founder, International Space University
