Lockheed Martin Space Systems said Oct. 19 it has successfully demonstrated the interface compatibility of the first Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) satellite’s dual Ultra High Frequency (UHF) communications payloads with ground user test terminals.
The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company said the demonstration ensures that mobile users of the existing UHF Follow-On system will have a smooth transition to MUOS when the first satellites in the system are launched and handed over to the U.S. Navy in 2011.
“This successful satellite-to-terminal test demonstrates that MUOS will be able to service legacy communications users for many years to come, effectively extending the life of current UHF radios,” Mark Pasquale, Lockheed Martin’s UHF vice president, said in a press release.
