Agreement will allow ESS to expand programming at popular 1* West video neighborhood for distribution to Central and Eastern Europe

Intelsat S.A., the world’s leading provider of satellite services, announced today an agreement with Eastern Space Systems Romania (ESS) to provide satellite capacity for a new video multiplex platform designed to serve Central and Eastern Europe.

Under a multi-year contract, Intelsat will provide Ku-band capacity at 1* West for the new service offering. ESS joins several other prominent media customers that have recently leveraged Intelsat’s growing video neighborhood at this prime orbital location. ESS will launch a new DVB-S2 platform for standard- and high-definition programming serving the quickly growing Central and Eastern European video sector.

NBT in Bulgaria and TV SONCE in Macedonia are the latest channel additions to the programming offered on the platform by ESS, which currently features Kanal D, TV Paprika, VH1 Romania, Filmbox and Reflektor. The new video multiplex platform will also enable the distribution of MOOZ HD, Romania’s first HD music channel.

“This agreement will allow Eastern Space Systems to continue addressing the increasingly strong demand for video programming in Central and Eastern European,” said Jean Philippe Gillet, Intelsat’s regional vice president for Europe and Middle East sales. “This reinforces the leading position of the 1* West video neighborhood as the optimum choice for distribution of quality programming across the region.”

“The 1* West video neighborhood has attracted some of the world’s leading programmers, thanks to its broad reach of DTH and cable operators in Central and Eastern Europe,” said Cristinel Popa, Eastern Space Systems’ Managing Director. “We look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Intelsat as we work to meet the programming needs of our customers.”
