Inmarsat Government, a leading provider of secure, global, mission-critical telecommunications to the U.S. public sector, announced that it has finalized its official agreement to be a Value Added Reseller (VAR) for Inmarsat Global Xpress, serving the U.S. government market. On behalf of Inmarsat and its government-market partners, Inmarsat Government will also build and maintain the secure Global Xpress offering to provide reliable assured access supported 24/7 by a dedicated team of highly skilled, U.S. security-cleared professionals.

Inmarsat Government, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Inmarsat, is a cleared company operating under a Proxy Agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). Inmarsat Government’s mandate is to manage and grow Inmarsat’s retail U.S. government business, delivering a broad portfolio of integrated mission-critical communication solutions and managed network services worldwide. Among those trusted offerings, Inmarsat Government will offer managed services and bandwidth leases on the GX system to the U.S. government.

To meet the demanding requirements of U.S. government customers, subscription services with a wide range of data rates, contention ratio and availability will be offered with global, regional or custom coverage areas. Secure Global Xpress(TM) is an additional capability designed to allow Inmarsat’s government-market partners to create custom solutions while meeting the stringent security requirements of DoD Mission Assurance Category (MAC) standards.

Susan Miller, Inmarsat Government’s president and CEO, said: “The Global Xpress system will represent a fundamental shift in the kinds of affordable, reconfigurable services and secure end-to-end wideband connectivity solutions we will deliver globally. Specifically, because of the enhanced capabilities in the Global Xpress spot beams, we will be able to offer higher levels of flexibility and portability — functions that are critical to enabling seamless airborne, maritime and land government operations worldwide.”

With the first of three Inmarsat-5 satellites successfully launched on 8 December 2013, GX is on track to achieve full global deployment by the end of 2014, becoming the first global Ka-band wideband satellite network providing very high bandwidth services to a range of land, maritime and aviation terminals.

Peter Hadinger, President of the Inmarsat U.S. Government Business Unit, responsible for supporting all of Inmarsat’s wholesale business partners within the U.S. government market, said: “As a trusted partner of the U.S. military, intelligence and civilian agencies, Inmarsat Government is well positioned to deliver Global Xpress services. A retail arm of Inmarsat, Inmarsat Government is closely aligned with and responsive to the U.S. government customers and will deliver flexible GX communication solutions that seamlessly complement the U.S. Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) constellation and fulfill the government’s interoperable communication needs on a global basis.”
