The U.S. Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-P, or GOES-P, is slated to launch aboard a Delta 4 rocket March 2 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., according to a Feb. 22 NASA news release.
GOES-P is the last of three in a series of geostationary weather satellites built by El Segundo, Calif.-based Boeing Space and Intelligence for the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) under contracts administered by NASA.
Once on orbit, the satellite will be transitioned to NOAA’s control.
