Under New Policy Department of Defense Is Now Authorized to Purchase Globalstar Satellite Voice and Data Products for Unclassified US Based Applications

Globalstar, Inc., a world leader in providing mobile satellite voice and data services to business, announced today it understands that a memorandum from the Assistant Secretary of Defense has been released and that effective immediately the Department of Defense (DoD) has amended its policy regarding the procurement of satellite communications equipment. This amendment now provides the Department with the freedom and capability to purchase Globalstar and other satellite voice and data products for various unclassified government applications based in the continental United States.

Globalstar has been attempting to optimize the availability of portable satellite voice and data services to DoD strategic and administrative organizations, especially those planning support to national emergencies and security within the United States. Globalstar has always maintained the principle that it wished to be qualified, along with other satellite service providers to sell satellite communications products and services to the Department.

“Globalstar is extremely pleased with the Department of Defense decision,” said Tony Navarra, President of Global Operations for Globalstar, Inc. Mr. Navarra added, “Globalstar and its distributors have been involved with providing satellite voice and data products to a number of federal government departments and agencies, for a variety of public safety, asset tracking, and other emergency and first responder applications. This decision now grants us the opportunity to support the DoD and its various agencies and we look forward to potentially providing them with the same high quality Globalstar based solutions.”

Globalstar provides a wide range of competitively priced satellite voice and data solutions to various Federal Government agencies for a number of applications including emergency response and public safety. During the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Globalstar deployed in excess of 12,000 satellite units into the affected US Gulf coast region. The company also systematically prepared and implemented significant adjustments to its various space and ground operations in order to optimize its capabilities both during and after the hurricane.

In preparation for the upcoming hurricane season, Globalstar has been proactively working with Federal, State and local authorities across the country along with a number of Globalstar integrators, resellers, and distributors. The company is once again positioning its distribution to immediately provide and activate large quantities of satellite voice and data products in the event of any natural or manmade disaster.

Over the past 24 months Globalstar has consolidated various operations in the Americas and Western Europe and opened a new satellite gateway ground station in Florida. It is also in the process of completing construction of an additional gateway in Alaska, which is now expected to open ahead of schedule in early July. With its independent gateway operator-partners, the company has significantly expanded its simplex data coverage by installing a number of new simplex data appliques throughout the world. Globalstar is proceeding with its plan to launch eight spare satellites in early 2007 and will finalize its second-generation satellite constellation architecture later this summer. The company presently has over 210,000 active subscribers using the Globalstar satellite voice and data network.
