SpaceX posted this Falcon 9 landing attempt video April 15, 2015, one day after the rocket’s first stage came close to touching down on an ocean-going landing platform in the Atlantic. The Falcon 9 landing attempt video was viewed more than 3 million times within several days of being posted on SpaceX’s YouTube page.

The Falcon 9 landing attempt followed the rocket’s seventh successful launch of a Dragon cargo spacecraft to the International Space Station.

“Rocket landed on droneship, but too hard for survival,” SpaceX Chief Executive Elon Musk tweeted about 20 minutes after launch, the sixth conducted under SpaceX’s NASA Cargo Resupply Services contract.

Musk tweeted April 15 that the droneship survived the failed landing in good shape:

Droneship is fine. No hull breach and repairs are minor. Impact overpressure is closer to a fast fire than an explosion.
