The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) selected Greenbelt, Md.-based Emergent Space Technologies Inc. in November to spend an additional year providing cluster flight guidance, navigation and control algorithms and software for DARPA’s System F6 program.

The program aims to demonstrate that clusters of wirelessly networked small satellites can be used to perform missions traditionally done by a single, larger standalone spacecraft.

Emergent’s System F6 contract, awarded earlier this year, included a six-month base period and two one-year options for a total potential value of $6.7 billion.
