As the agricultural season continues in Western Africa, fires dot the landscape from Guinea to Benin.
A thick pall of dust and smoke still rise from the fires that still burn or from fires that have been put out and may still be smoldering. Visible-light images were taken from the VIIRS instrument aboard NASA-NOAA’s Suomi NPP satellite on Dec. 05, 2015. The VIIRS image showed the heat signatures from fires (in red) across a large section of Western Africa across Guinea, Mali, Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo and Benin.
