WASHINGTON — A United Launch Alliance (ULA) Delta 4 Heavy rocket successfully launched a classified payload for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) June 29 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., the NRO and the company announced.
The NROL-15 launch took place at 9:15 a.m. local time. It was the third of four planned spy satellite agency launches over a five-month span, two from the Cape and two from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. The launch featured a new and more powerful variant of the Delta 4’s RS-68 main engine.
