DARPA Seeks Ideas for Orbital Debris Removal

The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is seeking ideas for clearing away space debris orbiting the Earth and endangering spacecraft.

According to a Sept. 17 posting on the Federal Business Opportunities Web site, DARPA is looking for cost-effective concepts for removing significant amounts of debris ranging in size from as small as a millimeter to as large as a spacecraft or expended rocket body. Responses are due Oct. 30.
