WASHINGTON — Former NASA Deputy Administrator Shana Dale is returning to Capitol Hill to serve as principal policy adviser to Rep. Ralph Hall (R-Texas), chairman of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee.

“I am thrilled to be able to work for Chairman Hall and I look forward to working with all the Members and staff of the committee,” Dale wrote in a Feb. 16 email to colleagues. She begins her new job March 5.

Dale, who served as NASA’s second-in-command from 2005 to 2009, has spent most of the last three years working for Dell Inc., as senior vice president in charge of the former Perot Systems Space and Earth Techologies Services sector.

A lawyer by training, Dale worked for the House Science, Space and Technology Committee from 1990 to 2000, serving the last five years of that stint as the space and aeronautics subcommittee’s staff director.

She also has held various positions at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, including chief of staff and general counsel.
