Comtech EF Data Corp. will provide modems and other equipment to support satellite mobile backhaul services in Latin America under a $1.2 million contract with an unidentified mobile network operator in the region, the company said Feb. 27.

The equipment will support 2G and 3G broadband networks in rural areas, the Tempe, Ariz., company said. In addition to modems, the equipment includes redundancy and indoor and outdoor frequency conversion systems.

“The combination of our technologies enables operators globally to build out networks in rural and remote areas with low density populations, expand existing networks to support subscriber and traffic growth and upgrade networks to add new services,” Fred Kornberg, president and chief executive of Comtech parent company Comtech Telecommunications Corp., said in a statement.
