A Chinese Long March 3A rocket launched a Beidou navigation satellite Dec. 2 toward geosynchronous orbit, according to the state-run Xinhua News Agency.

Liftoff occurred at 5:07 a.m. Beijing time from the Xichang space center in China’s Sichuan province.

The launch was China’s 16th successful rocket launch of 2011, breaking the record China set last year.
