Barrios Technology Ltd., a 540-person company based in Houston, was awarded a NASA contract potentially worth $385 million over eight years to provide mission and program integration services for the international space station (ISS) program at Johnson Space Center in Houston.

Under the small business set-aside contract announced Aug. 21, Barrios will provide planning and support services to the ISS program at least through September 2014. Three two-year options could extend the contract into 2020.

In a separate Aug. 21 announcement, Barrios said that it had hired former NASA astronaut Mark Polansky to serve as the mission integration manager on the contract and lead Barrios’ commercial space business.

Polansky, a space shuttle commander who flew the last of his three missions in 2009, left the space agency June 30. His most recent NASA assignment included duties as director of operations at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City, Russia.
