MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (“MDA” or the “Company”) (TSX:MDA), a global communications and information company, today announced that in an order issued August 8, 2014, the federal court hearing ViaSat Communications, Inc.’s (ViaSat) lawsuit against Space Systems/Loral, LLC (SSL) vacated all damages the jury awarded to ViaSat, finding that the jury award was a “miscarriage of justice.” The Court ordered a new trial on damages.
The Court deferred any ruling on ViaSat’s motion for a permanent injunction, which seeks to bar SSL from manufacturing satellites which are significantly similar to Jupiter-1 with respect to the three patented technologies at issue in the case, scheduling argument on that motion for August 26, 2014.
