On 17-22 September the exhibition of space-based technologies ‘European Space Expo’ will be held in Vilnius Cathedral square. This is the first stop of the exhibition in the Baltic States, which is the project of the European Commission, traveling through European cities and presenting the achievements, ambitions of space-based technologies and services, their role in everyday life and benefit to the society.
The visitors of the exhibition will have a chance to find out how space-based technologies are adapted in our everyday life and used in services like aviation, environmental protection, agriculture, fisheries, roads, maps and other areas. The European space programmes, research results, European Space Policy and its contribution to the space innovations will be also presented. One of the exhibition stands will be devoted to the Lithuanian achievements in space. The exhibition visitors will learn more about the first Lithuanian satellites.
‘The space industry is a growing and important component of the global economy, the value added of which is among the greatest in the world. The state and the private sector are aware of the benefits of the space sector and are investing in research and new space technologies and services. Lithuania has a sufficiently strong potential in information technology, microelectronics and optoelectronics, mechatronics, lasers, biotechnology, and other fields of science. Lithuania may not only use but also develop high value added services and space technology’, – said Marius Skarupskas, Vice-Minister of Economy.
Particular attention will be given to the Lithuanian students. Some registered classes will be able to attend special tours, led by Lithuanian space satellite “Lituanica SAT-1” developers Vytenis Buzas and Laurynas Ma.
