IDirect Government Technologies of Herndon, Va., will demonstrate new satellite communications-on-the-move modems during a month-long U.S. Defense Department communications exercise, the company announced June 2.
The U.S. Army is holding the Joint User Interoperability Communications Exercise for the entire month of June at locations in seven U.S. states and Germany, the iDirect press release said. The annual exercise serves to evaluate emerging communications technologies in a joint environment.
IDirect will be demonstrating several new satellite capabilities during the exercise. In one demonstration, U.S. Army Special Operations Command paratroopers will jump from a C-130 cargo aircraft to a Fort Bragg, N.C., training area. They will be equipped with a Panther Ku-band micro-terminal, built by L-3 Communications of N.Y., and iDirect’s iConnex e850mp satellite communications modem, the release said. The soldiers will set up a live everything-over-Internet-protocol video teleconference session with an Army vehicle traveling in Fort Monmouth, N.J. IDirect also will manage the unclassified Time Division Multiple Access satellite connection for the exercise, the release said.
This is the first year iDirect has participated in the Joint User Interoperability Communications Exercise, the release said.
