Promethean Labs has moved in to the main terminal building at Edmonton International Airport (EIA) as part of the Alberta Aerospace and Technology Centre (AATC). Promethean Labs will help provide Alberta with a “smart economy” by supporting the forestry, mining and agriculture industries as well as measuring greenhouse gas emissions, with precision satellite data. Promethean Labs will launch their first satellite in late 2018.
The AATC is a joint venture by Canadian Helicopters (an HNZ company), Canadian North, Edmonton Economic Development Corporation (EEDC), the Government of Alberta and EIA. As part of AATC, Canadian North operates a 737 training simulator in the airport’s Cargo Village, HNZ Topflight operates a helicopter training simulator in the main terminal building and the Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) will begin construction of a new educational facility in the north part of EIA.
“EIA and AATC proactively pursue strategies that foster and sustain new industries in the Edmonton region, and through this partnership we are really kicking off Alberta’s space industry.” Charles Nokes, Promethean Labs Chief Operations Officer.
“Promethean Labs is exactly the kind of company that we wanted to attract to the AATC,” said Myron Keehn, EIA VP of Commercial Development. “They are a welcome addition our region’s aerotropolis and Port Alberta, and will support training, advance technology and enhance workforce diversification.”
