MacDonald , Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (“MDA” or the “Company”) (TSX:MDA), a global communications and information company, today announced that it has signed a contract with OneWeb Satellites to develop and manufacture 3,600 communication antenna subsystems for integration on 900 satellites for the OneWeb Low Earth Orbit Constellation. MDA will manufacture the antenna subsystems at its Montreal, Quebec facility.

Brian Holz , CEO of OneWeb Satellites said, “We are pleased to be working with MDA on the OneWeb satellites. Their experience in antenna design and high-volume manufacturing made MDA an obvious choice. MDA will be providing a key aspect of our system, enabling the connectivity between OneWeb user terminals, the satellites, and our access points, leveraging their leading technology and engineering team.”

OneWeb Satellites, a joint venture equally owned by Airbus Defence and Space and OneWeb has been set up, following the selection in June 2015 of Airbus Defence and Space as the industrial partner of OneWeb to design and build its satellites. The constellation, to be operated by OneWeb, will provide high-speed internet services with global coverage. MDA’s past experience with producing large quantities of reliable antennas for constellations, combined with their ingenuity and specific approaches to assembly and testing will allow them to meet OneWeb’s delivery needs.

Steve Oldham , senior vice president for business development at MDA said, “We are delighted with our progress with OneWeb Satellites, which demonstrates MDA’s ability to develop cost effective solutions for constellations of satellites.”
