The Toronto-based Canadian Space Commerce Association (CSCA) is pleased to announce the hiring of Marc Boucher as the association’s first executive director effective January 1, 2015. Boucher is the association’s current President and a Director until the end of the year.

Boucher was one of the founders of the CSCA which was incorporated in 2007 and whose roots go back to the summer of 2005, when a group of dedicated space professionals began the process of creating the association.

Boucher is currently the CEO of SpaceRef, a new media company based in London and Reston, Virginia and for which he will continue on in that role.

Boucher has 15 years experience in the space sector having co-founded SpaceRef in 1999. Boucher is a proven entrepreneur having successfully started several ventures including Canada’s first Internet directory and search engine, Maple Square in 1996. Boucher also serves on the International Astronautical Federation Entrepreneurship and Investment Committee, as well as being a member of the Advisory Council for the Centre for Planetary Science and Exploration at Western University. Boucher will assume the day-to-day running of the association.

“I am honoured to be selected by the CSCA Board of Directors to serve as the first Executive Director of the association. The Canadian space market generated approximately $4.2 billion in revenue in 2013, and while that is a jump over 2012, it is mostly due to MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd acquiring U.S. based Space System Loral (SSL). Growth going back to 2010 has been marginal for a variety of reasons,” said Boucher. “Canada has a reach history in the space sector and it is my intention to work with and represent our members as we endeavour to grow the space sector. The association will also engage the public as to our members activities and the importance of their work to Canada’s economy and security.”

Dr. Yaroslav Pustovyi, the newly elected President of the CSCA, said: “Hiring the first Executive Director represents an important milestone in the development of our organization. The Board of Directors has full confidence in Mr. Boucher and firmly believe that together we will move forward in further building stronger Canadian commercial space community that will bring more benefits to our members.”
