MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX: MDA – News), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today that it has received a contract from The Boeing Company to develop a spacecraft landing information solution for NASA’s future missions to the moon and Mars. The precision landing and hazard avoidance work is to develop a demonstration as part of NASA’s Human and Robotic Technology program. A successful demonstration will pave the way for MDA’s solution to be integrated into future Boeing plans for NASA planetary exploration missions.

This demonstration is designed to show that future NASA crewed and unmanned spacecraft would be able to safely land in areas of great interest that have rocky, dangerous terrain. MDA will integrate its real-time terrain surveillance, analysis, and safe landing site selection capabilities with Boeing’s solutions to provide autonomous navigation and hazard avoidance capabilities that do not currently exist.
