The executive director and chief executive of the Chabot Space Center in Oakland, California, will be leaving his position June 30.

During his time at Chabot, Alexander Zwissler oversaw the development of the Bill Nye’s Climate Lab, NASA’s Touch the Sun and Tales of the Maya Skies exhibits, and expanded the museum’s Champions of Science and Galaxy Explorers teen programs.

Prior to joining the hands-on science museum, Zwissler served as the executive director of the Fort Mason Foundation. He had spent 17 years in the cable television and telecommunications industry, ultimately as the director of ComTel, one of the United Kingdom’s largest telecommunications companies.

Zwissler is not retiring and has no immediate plans on what he will do next, Chabot spokeswoman Autumn King said in a Feb. 19 interview. Chabot’s two boards of directors are working with a search agency to find a successor.
