India plans to launch its educational communications satellite, dubbed Edusat, Sept. 20 aboard a Geostationary Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV), the Indian Space Research Organisation announced Sept. 10.
The launch had been scheduled for July but was postponed due to delays in completing the satellite. Edusat will carry five Ku-band transponders that will link classrooms across the country for interactive learning.
This will be the third launch of the GSLV, which is capable of lofting up to 1,800 kilograms to geostationary transfer orbit, and the first since a May 2003 mission that lofted an experimental communications satellite.
