MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. announced today that the Information Systems Group has been awarded
a contract by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to provide an interface that will
allow Canadarm2 to assist in berthing the Japanese Transfer Vehicle (HTV) to
the International Space Station.
The HTV is being developed by NASDA, the National Space Development
Agency of Japan, as one of their contributions to the Space Station. The
mechanism will utilize the same ‘capture and release’ interface developed by
MDA subsidiary MD Robotics for the Canadarm2.
“This contract is the result of the valued relationship we’ve developed
with Japan over the years,” said Mag Iskander, Vice President and General
Manager of MD Robotics. “As the prime contractor for Canadarm2, we’re working
with our international colleagues toward the ongoing success of the
International Space Station.”
