Richmond, B.C. – MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSE: MDA) today announced the
successful on-site delivery of the RADARSAT-1 Reception and Processing System (RRPS) to a
major Asian client. MDA’s Earth Observation Systems and the company’s subsidiary
RADARSAT International worked together to develop and deliver the system, working under
an aggressive schedule.
The system, produced under contract with a U.S. supplier, is based on MDA’s proven Earth
observation components, including minor modifications to the company’s Product General
System (PGS) and the Direct Archive System (DAS). Two other important components are the
Acquisition Cataloging System, or ACS, and the Agency Interface System (AIS). This upgrade
will provide the customer with 24-hour, all-weather image acquisition capabilities.
Donna Coutts, MDA’s Director of Earth Observation Systems, said: “The acceptance of the
RRPS continues to strengthen our excellent working relationship with our Asian clients, and
further establishes MDA’s strong foothold in the RADARSAT-1 and SAR data markets.”
RADARSAT-1 is the world’s most advanced commercial Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)
satellite, and has become the predominant source for operational services in sectors such as
agricultural monitoring, oil slick detection, disaster management, and vessel detection.
RADARSAT-1 data is an essential information source for government and operational agencies
worldwide, given that the imagery can be delivered within hours of acquisition.
