Reuters reports that satellite news broadcasts into Egypt by the Qatar-based Al Jazeera television network have been restored amid the continuing turmoil in the North African country. The broadcasts, carried by Egyptian satellite operator Nilesat, were halted Feb. 1 as mass protests against the government of President Hosni Mubarak gained momentum.

     “The protest movement has been supportive of Al Jazeera and critical of the state media, which remains under the control of veteran Information Minister Anas el-Fiki.

In a meeting with Egyptian newspaper editors on Tuesday, [Egyptian] Vice President Omar Suleiman said non-Egyptian satellite channels had “insulted and belittled Egypt.”
