The 3rd International Moon Village Workshop & Symposium, organized by the Moon Village Association took place in Tokyo and Kyoto in Japan in cooperation with Tokyo University of Science (TUS), Keio University and Kyoto University, and it was supported by Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), Science Union for Human Planetary Habitation in Space and Japan Space Forum.
From 5th to 8th of December, more than 240 participants from all over the world gathered to discuss various interdisciplinary issues related to the implementation of the Moon Village as well as on-going and planned Lunar programs, demonstrating a strong interest for the Moon Village globally, and particularly in Japan. During the first two days in Tokyo University there were numerous talks and plenary sessions by multiple speakers of the industry, as well as breakout sessions for the Association’s Working Groups and Projects. The Workshop & Symposium moved to Kyoto for the 8th of December, where the presentations continued with an emphasis on Outreach and Education. A Report, with the main findings, of the Workshop will be published on the MVA website in January. MVA awarded for the first time the Moon Village Principles – Mission Prize 2019. The prizes were awarded to the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) by NASA, USA; Chang’e-4, by CNSA, China; and Chandrayaan-2 by ISRO, India. Details of this prize were included in the Press Release MVA 2019/5 (Nov 19). The Prizes were received by the Agencies’ representatives.
The Moon Village Principles – Activity Award 2019 went to the ISU Team Project Working Group for the “Sustainable Moon Project”.
At the closing of the Tokyo Session, it was announced that Cyprus Space Exploration Organisation (CSEO) was selected to host the next (4th) International Moon Village Workshop & Symposium in Nicosia, Cyprus, in November 2020. The exact date will be defined early in 2020. In view of the global reach of the MVA, in 2020 the Workshop will be held in Europe, since this year was held in Asia and 2018 in America. The Workshop & Symposium was sponsored by various industry representatives, such as Astrax Lunar City, IHI Corporation, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Shimizu Corporation, Takenaka Corporation, Fujikin, Spacebit, Katana, I-Net Corp, NEC Corp, Arianespace, Bridgestone, Obayashi Corporation, Outsence, Space Systems Development Corporation, Japan Manned Space Systems Corporation (JAMSS), Mitsubishi Space Software, Space Architecture Study Group, TNL Space Architecture and Luxemburg Space Agency.

About the Moon Village Association
The Moon Village Association (MVA) was created in 2017 as a non-governmental organisation (NGO) based
in Vienna. Its goal is the creation of a permanent global informal forum for stakeholders like governments, industry, academia and the general public interested in the development of the Moon Village. The MVA is the assembling of all efforts from private, governmental and other entities aimed to explore and use the Moon in a sustainable manner. The MVA fosters cooperation for existing or planned moon exploration programs, derived from public or private initiatives. It comprises approximately 250 individual and 23 institutional members from more than 40 countries, representing a diverse array of technical, scientific, cultural and interdisciplinary fields. MVA also partners with non-space organisations to promote international discussions and formulate plans to foster the development of the Moon Village and create international, national and regional networks to engage civil society around the world.
