Former Intelsat general counsel Phillip L. Spector has joined the satellite and space practice of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McLoy, the New York-based law firm announced July 29.
Spector, a veteran satellite industry attorney who spent eight years at Intelsat, the world’s largest satellite operator, will become counsel in Milbank’s Washington office. He will work with the senior members of the firm’s space business practice and “pursue a broader corporate and telecommunications practice based on his past representation of many of the world’s major telecom and technology companies,” Milbank said.
In addition to being general counsel at Washington- and Luxembourg- based Intelsat, Spector was executive vice president of business development with responsibility for the satellite operator’s strategic ventures and acquisitions. Spector departed Intelsat in March but retained a seat on the company’s board of directors, a seat he has since given up.
“Phil Spector brings the benefits of many years of law firm and general counsel experience, which will add materially to our highly regarded corporate and financing practice in the satellite and space industry,” Milbank Chairman Scott Edelman said. “His deal-making skills and corporate governance expertise will provide our clients the advice and counsel essential to this rapidly growing and competitive sector.”
