Yuri’s Night, the global non-profit organization dedicated to promoting public education about the benefits of human spaceflight, has teamed up with Disney Junior’s hit intergalactic animated TV series “Miles from Tomorrowland” to inspire young kids and their families’ interest in space and science as the world celebrates the 55th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s pioneering flight into space on April 12, 1961.
As part of the annual celebration, YurisNight.net will feature a downloadable “Miles from Tomorrowland” at-home party kit including science activities, space-themed recipes and fun crafts throughout the month of April. The website will also highlight a map of family-friendly Yuri’s Night events taking place around the world. A special Yuri’s Night episode of “Miles from Tomorrowland” will be available on the Disney Junior app and Watch DisneyJunior.com for the entire month of April.
Yuri’s Night Chairman and President Dr. Ryan Kobrick said, “We are honored to be working with Disney Junior and the ‘Miles from Tomorrowland’ team, who share our goal of inspiring children and their parents around the world with hands-on activities about the benefits of human exploration, both at home and in space.”
Yuri’s Night Co-Founder and Board Member Loretta Hidalgo Whitesides, who shares many similarities to the “Miles from Tomorrowland” character of the same name, said, “I never imagined when we started Yuri’s Night 15 years ago that the event would reach over four million people worldwide at more than 3000 individual events, educating a global audience about space exploration and its many benefits. Thanks to ‘Miles from Tomorrowland,’ the concept of Yuri’s Night has been shared with millions of young viewers and their families around the globe.”
“Miles from Tomorrowland” follows young space adventurer Miles Callisto, as he travels the universe with his family – mom and ship captain Phoebe, inventor dad Leo, big sister and computer coder Loretta and best friend pet robo-ostrich Merc. Like the space explorers celebrated each year at Yuri’s Night events worldwide, the Callistos use teamwork and problem-solving as they encounter obstacles while completing missions throughout different galaxies.
